Bolsa Chica State Beach is a public beach in Orange County, California. It lies north of Huntington Beach and south of Sunset Beach, two tiny settlements near one another. The Bolsa Chica State Ecological Reserve is a state-owned park in Orange County, California, adjacent to the city of Huntington Beach and governed by the state of California. Mile Square Regional Park is a public park in Fountain Valley, California. It has two lakes, three 18-hole golf courses, an archery range, baseball and softball fields, picnic shelters, and a 20-acre natural area planted with California native plants as well as a 55-acre sports center with tennis courts, basketball courts, racquetball courts, a gymnasium, the Kingston Boys & Girls Club (BC), and a community center.

The city of Garden Grove was founded in 1903, and that same year the federal government acquired a large tract of property for use as a naval landing field. The park was built on a naval landing field shortly after the city was incorporated. James Kanno, one of America's first Japanese American mayors, led the effort to establish the park.

The park is named for the near-perfect square block it occupies, which is bordered by Edinger Avenue on the north and south sides, Brookhurst Street on the west and Euclid Street on the east side, respectively. It measures 1 mile across and has an area of 640 acres altogether.
