SURGICAL PROCEDURES

Bone Grafting

A bone graft is an oral surgery procedure that may be required if your jawbone is not dense or thick enough. It replaces lost bone tissue and stimulate natural bone growth. After a tooth is lost or extracted, the jawbone begins to resorb, or deteriorate, at the site of the tooth extraction. The resorption must be corrected before other treatment can be done. Once bone grafting is completed, your jawbone then grows together with the grafted bone tissue, creating a stronger, more stable foundation.

Bone grafts may be needed to create a stable foundation for the placement of a dental implant, to halt the progression of periodontal disease, and/or even to improve the appearance of your smile.
